New Editions of Nightbreed on the Way?

Spread the love

Fans of Nightbreed, and Clive Barker may remember Occupy Midian, and our plight to get the extended version of Nightbreed out to the world, and we celebrated first, when Clive Barker’s Director’s Cut was released to North America by Shout Factory in 2014, but it was never over. Now, it looks like we have some more good news. ESC has announced their intention to release a French version of Nightbreed, with the box mock-up indicating a box set including the Theatrical Cut, Director’s Cut, and Cabal Cut. For a history of all the versions of Nightbreed, and the Cabal Cut, click here.

Please note, that this post from ESC Distribution seems a bit premature, since the artist Vance Kelley replied in the comments, noting that they did not have his permission.

Russell Cherrington, Restoration Director of the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed had this to say when the news hit the Occupy Midian Facebook group.

Nightbreed – The Cabal Cut

Statement about Worldwide Release

Right now we are talking with distributors on UK, France, Spain and Japan about a release of Nightbreed. No deal has been signed so nothing is confirmed just yet, when it is we will inform you first.

If any other company wishes to enter into talks to release The Cabal Cut of Nightbreed we are ready to talk to you.

The version that we have is pretty special and you will all be amazed with the film when it is on Blu Ray.

So 30 years after Clive Barker filmed Nightbreed at Pinewood Studios we have a fighting chance of you getting the perfect version of the film in 2019.

Russell Cherrington, Restoration Director, Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut

Though some fans expressed disappointment that the 2017 HD version of Cabal Cut (limited to 1000 copies) will be released in another edition, we are very excited about the future of Nightbreed, from the upcoming TV series to future releases of the movie worldwide. Nightbreed fans, the tribes of the moon embrace you.

The tribes of the moon… Yes. I’ll release them.

I’m feeling particularly duped in regards to the Cabal Cut bluray that had been offered before. I believe it was stated that the release was far more limited than the 1000 mentioned here (which explains the several times there were offers of buying returned items or “just found a bunch more!” order nows. Way too Charles Band for my taste. AND we were certainly led to believe that it would be the ONLY release of this version. I wouldn’t have shelled out 250 bucks for it knowing there was even a possibility it would get a general release. I think this sucks. I think we were lied to and taken advantage of. NOT COOL!!!!

    Hi Josh,

We’re going to be addressing this when we record Sunday’s podcast episdode, but I’ll do my best to address what you’re saying here.

    1) When the 2017 Cabal Cut was first thought up, a person from Clive Barker’s company, Seraphim Inc asked Morgan Creek (owner of the North American rights) for permission to make 250 limited edition copies of the Cabal Cut. Morgan Creek agreed. When we were chatting with them about it, we argued that they should make some regular editions for a more affordable price, $50. So they did. There were 200 special editions and 50 standard. But when they went to the manufacturer, the minimum order was 1000. They gave a lot away to Nightbreed cast members to sell at conventions, and then later asked Morgan Creek if they could sell the rest. Morgan Creek was very generous, and had no problem. SO the only mistake here was that they didn’t ask if they could sell 1000 copies from the beginning. I don’t know who Charles Band is.

    2) This release of the Cabal Cut will be a little different from the 2017 Blu-Ray.

    3) If you think you were lied to, who lied exactly? Morgan Creek has rights to Nightbreed in North America, and Revolution Studios has international rights. For years they said they had no interest in releasing or doing anything with Nightbreed. That’s why the Shout Factory Director’s Cut was only released in North America. Nobody thought they would ever get the rights sorted out, or that an international release would be possible, and even Shout Factory wasn’t interested in the Cabal Cut. So there was no way to know this would happen, nobody lied to you, and the people making money off the international release will not be the same people who sold you the Cabal Cut in 2017. I think that Cabal Cut release is cool. You can believe us or not, but we were involved in its production. You can even see my and Jose’s names on the back..

I’ll be both happy and annoyed if a general release comes about. However, I know that no one lied to us and that this doesn’t mean a US release is coming. We all felt this was a vaulted thing and we had one chance to seize a copy. Maybe no one had any idea there would be, but I think it’s understandable that people are a little annoyed with the idea.

I think it’s funny that you selfish turds are annoyed. lol What sense of entitlement do you have? Your copy isn’t worth less. It’s still a one of a kind. It was limited and rare for a certain amount of time. We all know eventually things will get released again. Do you enjoy your copy less now. It was pricey item for collectors in mind. Josh Ever go to a casino or ever lose money on accident. Yeah it sucks but you can’t bitch to the world about it, like it’s someone else’s fault. No one forced you to shell out the 250 when there was far cheaper options available. Your complaint is utterly ridiculous. This is an overseas release anyway’s.
