Clive Barker’s Podcast Scene of the Week

Spread the love

Hello Everyone,

For this week’s edition of Clive Barker’s Podcast Scene of the Week, I decided to venture into the world of occult detective Harry D’Amour and Clive Barker’s ultra-creep fest Lord of Illusions, which is loosely based off his wonderful short story, The Last Illusion.

It’s not his best film (that honor still goes to Hellraiser), but Barker really grew as a director here. There are some truly, awe-inspiring moments, especially the intense sequence where Harry encounters a fiery demon dubbed the Origami Man.

The scene has that Clive Barker peculiarity that we’ve all come to love about his work. It has great suspense and has the viewer on the edge of their seat. The shape-shifting effects of the Origami Man still hold up nicely too. My favorite part is when it transforms into a piece of origami that flies away, but not before knocking over a vase filled with a fresh bouquet of white flowers. Barker’s little touches of humor are always fun.

I wish they still made movies like this. Today’s audiences don’t know what they’re missing.

Yeah, it’s also the only scene that reminds of the short story. I think Clive probably did that on purpose.
