A Clive Barker Poem

Spread the love

Even though Clive Barker is known for his long imaginative novels such as Imajica and The Great and Secret Show, he also has the ability to say so much more in a short amount of time. I highly recommend picking up his short story/poem collection Tonight, Again. It’s some of the most personal and best work he’s put out in years.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. Clive Barker: Revelations Facebook page has shared a poem that his boyfriend Johnny Raymond posted on his wall. There is no title because I’m pretty sure Clive came up with it on the spot.

Show me a worthless thing.
A thing without purpose.
A piece of corruption,
And I will show you tomorrow.

What is our world becoming?
A world of plastic?

– Clive Barker

I thought our listeners (and all Clive Barker fans) would enjoy this. Some of my favorite work are his short poems, and this is no exception. There’s a strong message of how the world is becoming more apathetic towards everything in general.  Powerful stuff.
