Collector’s Corner : Imajica CCG (FINAL UPDATE!)

Spread the love

Often sited as fans’ favorite Clive Barker Book, and the one Clive appears to be most proud of — There is no doubt Imajica is a masterpiece .  The general public will remember him for Hellraiser, but  we know there is so much more.  Imajica is such a deep world, but for the most part it has not been explored in other genres, with one exception.  The Imajica Collecitble Card Game.

In August, 1996, and with the popularity of games like Magic The Gathering Zehrapushu Inc, Clive Barker and Harper Prism sought to bring the world(s) of this great and huge novel to life on cards.   The game was designed by Sean Curren and Hans Rueffert.  Official Clive Barker site: Revelations describes it this way:

Zehrapushu Inc, founded by Sean Curran and Hans Rueffert, created this CCG based on the 5 Dominions of the Imajica – and all its inhabitants. Calling in artists of the calibre of H.R.Giger, Eric Dinyer and Ted McKeever, they meticulously created a series of nearly 350 cards in consultation with Barker. Many of the rarer cards have commanded a premium price amongst traders as have some of the cards illustrated by Barker himself, which were largely promotional (see artwork on cards).
Just when it seemed that the game was really about to take off, and an ‘In Ovo’ expansion had been promised, production inexplicably stopped and the game was no more…

On a whim I bought a box of these, what’s known as a double-starter deck and I was hooked.  I had to collect them all.  I don’t know how to play it, but I’ve got a notebook where I keep all the cards, and a box full of all the extras.  I’ve been buying boxes of double starter decks, booster packs, individual cards on ebay, and then I started trading.  I had flown all the way from Alaska to Texas Frightmare Weekend to bring some stuff for Clive Barker to sign at the convention — A lot of stuff, and because I had so much, Clive decided to let some other people through to get their things signed too.  That gave me a lot of time to observe, and to talk to Clive and Seraphim’s newest employee, Mark Miller.  It turned out he was collecting them as well!  Of course he had a little bit of an edge on the competition,   Mark really helped me out.  We traded, and helped each other over the next year, and he was very generous with his trades, but at a certain point Mark had one of each card, and I was down to just 6 that I’m missing.  6 Cards!

So if there is anyone out there who wants to trade, or start their collection, I’ve got a lot of extra cards, rare, promo, common and uncommon.   I would be happy to trade or sell.  Feel free to contact me, and don’t forget we have a double starter deck available as a prize for people who donate to the site?  Want to get your collection started?

This is “Scott” mentioned in Nov. 10 update in this post… I’m still looking for a copy of Bem and would love to reunite my friend Eric (the original artist) with the card.

If you have a copy and would be willing to sell it, please leave a post here or reach out to Ryan Danhauser with your contact information.

Does anyone have a PDF or other document of the rules for Imajica? I finally picked up a very nice condition two-player starter set… but the rules are missing, and I can’t find any copy of them around online.

If anyone could help me out with that, it would be greatly appreciated… I’ve really been looking forward to finally actually getting to play this game!
