Tuesday Tunes: ‘The Dectective’

Spread the love

First off, I want to dedicate this Tuesday Tunes to the late Daniel Von Bargen who did an amazing job in the movie as Nix. You will not be forgotten. All of us here at the Podcast offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Simon Boswell’s compelling score for Lord of Illusions is one of the film’s many highlights. I have mixed feelings about the film overall but there’s no denying that Boswell’s score captures the film noir/horror aspect Clive Barker was going for. And he especially captured the essence of everyone’s favorite paranormal detective Harry D’Amour.

‘The Detective’ theme he gives the character is heroic, romantic, and haunting. The music feels like a struggle within Harry’s own mind, and for me that’s a big part of who the character of Harry D’Amour is. It’s very subtle because on the surface the music feels very safe but underneath it there’s an ongoing conflict. I think listening to this theme while reading The Scarlet Gospels would be a good way to find your way into the character’s head.
